Newly announced vice presidential candidate Joe Biden stopped for lunch at Boney's BBQ in Writer's Square just of Denver's 16th Street Mall on Monday afternoon.

He met and greeted onlookers during his first appearance of the Democratic National Convention.

Educator Gail Northcutt of Detroit pushed her way through a clamoring crowd of reporters to speak briefly with Jill Biden who promised, "We're going to change education."

The veteran Delaware senator is expected to attract the white, working-class voters who were drawn to Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Monday afternoon he attracted a crowd of a couple hundred excited passersby as the clocktower struck noon near the barbecue stand.
