Perlmutter picks up a whip

Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Golden, this week was selected to serve as regional whip for congressional members from Colorado and other states in the West and Northwest.

In that position, Perlmutter, who cruised to re-election to a second term earlier this month, will count votes and educate Democratic congressional members from Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, his office said in a release.

"I am honored to be chosen by my peers to serve in this leadership role," Perlmutter said in a release.  "We have incredible opportunities to change the direction of this country, and I look forward to working hard to help pass legislation to stabilize our economy, ease the squeeze on the hard working people in this country and ensure the safety and security of our nation."

Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Denver, is chief deputy whip for Democrats in the House.
