Supreme Court pathetic even in getting the right answer in Ricci case

In a 5-4 ruling yesterday, the Supreme Court overturned Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor’s defining decision, the case of Ricci v DeStefano, in which she ruled that it was OK for the city of New Haven, Connecticut to refuse to use the results of tests for promotion of fire fighters after no blacks...

Salazar's not an easy cover

For a basketball backwater, Colorado is well-represented in ESPN's look at the emerging world of Washington pickup basketball.

This ESPN article mentions that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is "not an easy cover" (a description that works well on the hardwood and on the beat)...

Cap-and-Tax passes with help of 8 GOP traitors

So many people will be writing about the House of Representatives
passing the Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax bill on Friday afternoon that I
will for now keep my comments relatively brief.

First of all, this may not be a bad thing because it’s a tremendous
weapon to use against many Democrats and the 8 Republicans who voted
for the bill. (More on that in a minute.)

ObamaCare: Far worse than economically ignorant

In a news conference yesterday, Barack Obama demonstrated a
remarkable ignorance of and antipathy for free markets and free
enterprise when speaking about the possibility of a “public option” as
part of “health care reform.”

It’s not easy for Obama to surprise me but the vacuousness of his
statements combined with their casual disregard for the power of

Denver Post photo 'Burns' Ritter

Let it be known that no one from the Denver Post political team played a role in the selection of this morning's front page picture of Gov. Bill Ritter. In fact, we completely missed his impression of Monty Burns of Simpsons fame during yesterday's press conference.

Amendment 54 temporarily suspended

A voter-approved amendment that's helped slow campaign contributions in Colorado was temporarily lifted Tuesday by Denver District Court Judge Catherine A. Lemon, who several times called the rules discriminatory and confusing.
She largely agreed with the collection of business, labor and non-profit leaders who argued that Amendment 54 - approved by 51 percent of voters...

A big hat to fill

Witnessed Monday just off the Senate floor:

Sen. Michael Bennet came out of the chamber and was waiting for an elevator. A reporter nearby leans over and asks, "Who is that?" and another reporter whispers, "Oh, that's Michael Bennet, he replaced Ken Salazar."

The Colorado Democrat overheard the conversation and as he gets on the lift, he says, "No one can replace Ken Salazar."
