Democrats wasted no time at their state convention taking digs at GOP U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer's recent campaign ad that mistakenly included pictures of Alaska's Mt. McKinley, rather than images of Pikes Peak.
During the convention-opening video set to the tune of Van Halen's "Right Now," the following was flashed to loud applause:
"Right Now Bob Schaffer is still trying to figure out what a Colorado Mountain looks like."
And then, in his introductory remarks, Rep. Mike Merrifield piled on, saying: "Greetings from the foot of Mt. McKinley."
Rep. Mark Udall, formally selected today as the party's nominee to run against Schaffer for the seat being vacated by Sen. Wayne Allard, tried to remain above the fray. But when asked about a jacket he's seen wearing a new campaign ad, Udall confessed that it was the one he wore when he climbed, you guessed it, Mt. McKinley.
